Feb 10 – Banker to the Poor: Mohammed Yunus
Nice little outline on the development of the Grameen Bank. Some interesting insights from a man who deals with poverty every day and some of his ideas on how governments could be more effective in tackling this global challenge were very informative.
Jan 10 - The Rotten State of Britain: Eamonn Butler
Scary stuff! really does tend to open your eyes to things that many people take for granted without realising…or maybe I’m just being cynical. Read it and let me know your thoughts.
Dec 09 – Mavericks at Work: William Taylor & Polly LaBarre
Really enjoyed this book – partly because I subscribe to many of the values they have considered. I strongly believe that companies built on clear, fundamental missions will find a way to achieve their goals. As a result they are innovative and profitable because they understand clearly why they are doing what they do. Read it!!
June 08 – The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Tom Friedman
Surprisingly, I have enjoyed this book. Overly pro- America at times, sometimes forgetting that we are all in this together – even leaders need others. But does give very interesting insights into how the world works at times and how the way we interact is continuously changing!
May 08 – Our Emperors Have No Clothes: Alan Weiss
Written 13 years ago. Sadly, not much has changed. Happily, it keeps me in business! Well-written, coherent points.
April 08 – The Fountainhead: Ayn Rand
Excellent – need I say more? Read it – it may change your outlook on things.
March 08 – The Definitive Drucker: Elizabeth Haas Edersheim
No matter how many times I come across Drucker, I am amazed at his ability for concise insight. Highly recommend it - especially if you haven’t read any other Drucker books – it’s a great starting point to understand his take on things.
March 08 – Bonfire of the Vanities: Tom Wolfe
Was the first “fiction” book I have read in years. Highly recommend it. Truly deserving of its ‘classic’ status.
